The flagship of OPEL has begun production in 2008 as the successor of the popular Vectra. The model name is based on the Latin word insigne, meaning emblem or sign.
Like the Vectra, it was available in three body options, a sedan, a liftback and a wagon. In 2009, the vehicle was awarded the prestigious title of Car of the Year. Identical vehicles are sold around the world. In the United Kingdom known as Vauxhall, in China as Buick and Australia as Holden. In March 2017 comes the second generation as the liftback and the estate.
